Pat Maguire ITEC CIBTAC Massage Therapist and Sports Massage Therapist in Winchester. Pat has a CIBTAC Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology, Body Massage and Aromatherapy. She is a member of CTha and has an ITEC Diploma in Sports Massage and Hot/Cold Stones Therapy. Qualifying in 1998, she has 20 years experience. Pat's special interest is in pain management, working with clients to help manage chronic pains issues with massage and aromatherapy using essential oils containing pain relieving properties to enhance the overall treatment.
Sports Massage is a deep tissue massage, which is suitable for sports and non-sports people. Advanced techniques are used to help break down scar tissue, help realign muscle fibres, increase flexibility and suppleness of the muscles for improved join mobility. The therapy targets specific muscle groups and works on superficial and deep muscle tissue.
Long standing neck and back pain, repetitive strain injury, tendonitis and postural related issues all respond well to sports massage. Sports massage can also help improve overall sporting performance or activity.
Aromatherapy is the use of essential plant oils for massage. It is suitable for anyone who would enjoy light to moderate pressure. Techniques include lymphatic drainage and trigger point movements. Essential oils have many different medical properties and are effective as an anti-inflammatory, a sedative, an analgesic, and anti spasmodic and anti depressant depending on the chemical compound of the oil. A blend of up to three chosen essential oils is prepared during each session then massaged into the face or body.
The therapy is beneficial to a variety of conditions including insomnia, stress & anxiety, tiredness, headaches, arthritic pain, general muscular aches and pains and some skin conditions. Aromatherapy can also help to maintain a healthy immune system.
Both hot and cold stones can be incorporated into a massage treatment and used to enhance the overall effectiveness of treatment. The benefits of this therapy are improved circulation, a reduction is muscular aches and pains and a feeling of deep relaxation.
Swedish Massage is a vigorous treatment and used moderate to firm pressure. Massage oil is used but aromatherapy oils such as Eucalyptus can be added if requested. Massage is a highly effective and enjoyable way to relieve muscular aches and pains, reduce stress and induce relaxation. It is good for stimulating the blood and lymph flow, stimulating nerves and helps to tone muscle groups and improve skin tone.
At the first visit, a client will be asked to complete a questionnaire, which will highlight any possible contra-indications to treatment, massage techniques or oils. It will also give an insight to the patient’s overall lifestyle. A postural assessment or muscle and joint test may also be included. A treatment plan will be given which will include homecare advice. Lose fitting, comfortable clothes should be word during the treatment and something that won’t spoil should it get exposed to any of the oils used during treatment.
Pat has developed her own brand of natural hand, foot and body balms and oils, Maguire's, using essential plant oils, butters and beeswax. They all leave the skin soft, moisturised and hydrated for hours after use without leaving a sticky residue.
