I undertook the GP rotation involving 6-month jobs in psychiatry, accident and emergency, medicine/elderly care and obstetrics and gynaecology, and also did an extra 6-month job in paediatrics to broaden my experience.
Patricia was a partner for 11 years in a 6-partner practice in Basingstoke. In 1996, along with one of her partners, looked into the idea of setting up a GP co- operative. Hantsdoc has now been up and running for 6 years and uses 70- plus doctors to cover 150,000 patients. Patricia enjoys her work as one of the directors of the co- operative. She also has an active interest in diving and sub-aqua medicine and have completed the Institute of Naval Medicine Underwater Medicine course.
Patricia is on the obstetric list and has approval for minor surgery and child health surveillance.
Since university, when she did a social medicine project looking at the public's attitude to homeopathy used alongside conventional medicine, she has always had an interest in homeopathy. Patricia now feels that she wants to explore how she may once again practice in the way she believes a family doctor should, broaden her horizons and accept a new challenge. To this end she is working regularly with Dr. David Owen in Winchester and Basingstoke and has now qualified for Membership of the Faculty of Homeopathy.
